Uses for white noise

Mask background noise

A steady hiss covers voices, traffic and office noise.

Sleep

Many people fall asleep more easily with a constant sound in the background.

Focus and study

Block out distractions while you read or work.

TV static effect

The full-screen static works as a retro TV picture for props and videos.

What is white noise?

White noise contains every frequency you can hear at equal strength, which is why it sounds like a steady hiss, similar to an untuned radio or TV. That even sound helps cover sudden noises that would otherwise catch your attention.

How to use it

Press Play and set the volume. Choose a sleep timer if you want the sound to stop on its own. Press Full screen for the moving picture, and Esc to exit.

Frequently asked questions

Is the sound streamed?

No. The noise is generated by your browser, so it uses no data after the page loads.

Will it stop on its own?

Set the sleep timer and the sound fades out after 15, 30, 60 or 120 minutes.

How loud should it be?

Keep the volume low, especially for long sessions and for children.

Is it free? Do I need to install anything?

Yes, it is free. Every screen runs in your web browser on a computer, phone or tablet. There is nothing to download and no account to create.

Do you store or upload anything?

No. Your settings are saved only in your own browser so they are ready next time. We do not use cookies, and we count visits with cookieless analytics.
